The Exotic Shorthair cat was originally secretly bred in the 1950s by American Shorthair owners that wanted to improve the breed's appearance. They were crossed with Persian cats and are now considered by some to be the 'lazy person's Persian' as they look like short haired versions of Persians and they don't need as much maintenance because of their short coat.
